construction details - Wood
In addition to planting, materials selected for a site either enhance a landscape or take away from it. They are the building blocks and foundation for garden design. Choosing the right stone, brick or wood, as well as man-made materials, affects the atmosphere surrounding the architecture and is key to creating gardens with a sense of place - a garden that fits into the surrounding landscape and feels "absolutely right" in its setting.
The few examples in the photos at right include the various uses for wood as an example. Whether structures, walls, paving, or furniture, bird houses, "eye brows" for overhead planting, or sculptures - the right choice of wood, painted or left to age naturally - can emphasize the feeling we want to create in a garden - whether at the edge of a woodland or in a more formal setting.
