Herb and Kitchen Gardens
Several different materials have been used in herb and kitchen garden construction. The small herb garden in the top row left was set into gravel paths by digging down 18" and creating sunken beds using wood boards. The garden on the right has wood board raised beds above ground. A small rustic arbour covered with grape vines sits in the center of the garden. A large nursery area was added behind the arbour. Deer fencing was simply wire mesh between posts, extended with heavy duty wire up to 8 ft. high.
Row 2 photo left shows blue stone paths and edging to create raised beds on a very small suburban lot. Blue stone was used throughout the garden and the vegetable garden was visually separated with a yew hedge. Photo at right shows a small front door herb garden using Belgian Block for bed and path edging. In row 3 at left is the more formal lattice deer fencing for this garden since it is the main house entrance.
Row 4 left shows another large vegetable garden with simple rail fencing and flower beds around the perimeter.
