Country Gardens

   Garden for A Converted Barn

A converted barn, the main house sits on a steep hillside requiring retaining walls and steps to connect upper and lower levels. All plantings, walks, steps and terraces to connect the different levels, are new. Several years after the initial work, a guesthouse addition was seemlessly incorporated, both in the front and rear. New retaining walls allowed us to save all original plantings of trees and shrubs.

Adding a retaining wall created space for additional guest parking and turn-around. A walkway connects to the rear patio, to the gardens, swimming pool, and new guesthouse. Large trees from the original farm as well as farm outbuildings lend an air of age. Simple, natural materials of native stone and wood were used throughout. A balcony, reached with steps from the patio, overlooks the gardens and pond below.
